Amazon.com reviews:
Desmodus is a wonderful book. A nice change from the sniveling,
romantic vampire stories that the market seems flooded with currently.
Desmodus is violent, gory, and frightening. I'm looking forward to the
sequels!
What a great story! I'm looking forward to a sequel. Sex and violence in a
gothic style that can't be beat. A combination of Poe and Playboy wrapped
into one. Bravo!
Desmodus starts off with a vivid description of Bogg's world as it has
become narrowly focused on sound. In the first pages the author creates
a sense of impending terror. This is horror at its best, delightfully
gruesome, definitely not for the faint of heart. As the book advances, the
reader is caught up in the mystery of what is really going on. Who is this
man Bogg and what is his connection to Desmodus? The reader almost
aches with Bogg as he metamorphises into something other than human,
yet there is fear too for what he is becoming. Walker creates a world for
the reader, oneof a species unlike any that has ever been imagined. He
manages to weave history into the story so skillfully, the reader believes in
these fantastical, vampire-like creatures but is not quite certain why.
Walker manages to draw you into this story until you are rooting for the
people fighting against these evil forces and sitting on the edge of your
seat to see what will happen next. The conclusion is satisfactory but
realistic and makes you wonder what this rising new author has in store
for us next.
Desmodus is a classic. Walker is going to be the king of the horror genre.
The first chapter was a little slow, unless you enjoy reading old classic
styles of greats like Poe or Shakespeare. After that, I couldn't put it down.
The characters come alive and Walker's descriptive style makes the
setting easy to visualize. The only noticeable drawback was the evidence
of several grammatical errors, but the action is so intense that it is hardly
noticeable. At times, Desmodus can be brutally graphic and at other
spots, as erotic as a romance novel. I never heard of the author before,
but I'll definitely be looking for more of his work. This is horror that can
actually scare the reader.

Desmodus, has been
touted as a combination of
Playboy and Poe, and this
graphically horrific novel
about cannibalistic, vampire-
like creatures quickly found
a niche market after the
book release party was
held in Gramercy Park in
Manhattan in 1996 along
with the National Arts Club
on Halloween, which was
attended by Georghe
Lupes, Consul General of
Romania and televised
internationally.
